COMMUNITY ACCESS: The Community Access program component of the Foothills Advocacy In Motion Society makes available a broad range of activities tailor made to each person’s abilities, skills, desires and goals. A wide variety of services are offered ranging from volunteer work and employment experience to recreational activities. Community Access is defined as any activity or work in which the person participating is earning up to minimum wage.
For people who wish to gain employment, it provides an opportunity to “skill build” by developing work related aptitudes that are transferable to entry level employment at a competitive wage. This is done through volunteer opportunities or by participating in employment situations that pay less than minimum wage (Newspaper delivery, recycling, work experience programs etc.)
If Employment is not a desired goal, activities are provided in which people may acquire, improve and utilize skills that will enhance daily living and quality of life with focus on four objectives.
1) To improve social contact on a one to one basis or as part of a group.
2) To provide an opportunity for emotional expression and communication.
3) To provide activities and services to improve physical fitness.
4) To improve and maintain cognitive abilities.
This is achieved through one to one support and small group activities.
The success indicators for the Employment/Day Program will be monitored through Person Centered Planning, Quality of Life, and Individual Service Plans. All established goals will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The Employment/Day Program Manager will be responsible for maintaining and reviewing the goals and objectives.
